Talking to the Enemy

President Jimmy Carter has met exiled Hamas political leader Khaled Meshaal during his trip to Syria. As part of his tour of the Middle East, Carter had already met with Hamas representatives in Egypt.

By his own admission Carter is not trying to mediate in the Arab-Israeli conflict, but – and here is the real problem – he does believe peace will not be achieved without talking to Hamas. New parking ticket rules – hmmm…

As someone who has been ‘awarded’ the odd parking ticket now and again, I am a little unsure how to receive the new parking regulations which have come into force throughout England. Ruth Kelly, the transport secretary, has suggested that they will be more “motorist friendly”, I should hope so!
