We hope you will appreciate our continuing efforts to improve the blog, and most importantly your reading and participation experience.
We would like to thank all the blog readers for their participation. We welcome and encourage comments on the blog posts, however many readers do not like to see comments reaching into many hundreds or even thousands of words!
Some readers are discouraged from commenting themselves (or reading comments at all) when they see very long comments left by others. Very long comments also dilute the impact of the author’s original post by relegating it to a small proportion of the overall content on the page. Hence, we have set a new limit of 1,000 1,500 (one thousand and five hundred) characters for each comment – effective immediately.
Also, as a direct result of your feedback we have decided to enforce the User Guidelines more strictly. This will hopefully eliminate the abusive comments, that serve no purpose other than to make personal attacks against bloggers, commenters and other people.
We will of course continue to allow constructive criticism of all opinions expressed by bloggers or indeed commenters.
We hope these steps will improve your overall experience of the blog.
PS: It defeats the objective of limiting the length of comments, if people continue to write long comments by dividing their comments into many parts to get around the rule. The idea was to encourage commenters to find a succinct way of expressing their points. Subsequent comments (from the same person) will not be published, if it looks like a direct continuation of their previous comment.
