Gem4: The best of Ramadan still remains
Servants of Allah, indeed the month of Ramadan has decided to depart, and nothing remains of it except a little. So the one who excelled in this month, continue and complete the month. As for the one who was deficient then seal the month with beautiful deeds and benefit from what little remains of its nights and days.
In a Hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas; “Allah releases in every night of Ramadan at iftar (breakfast) millions of servants from the hellfire, all of whom were destined for the hellfire. When it is the last night of Ramadan he releases in that night more servants than he did from the beginning of the month until the end of it.”
What to do in the remaining time of Ramadan
1. Increase in night prayers – strive until the last moment.
2. Increase in dhikr, shahada and seeking forgiveness (a fasting person’s dua is accepted – particularly at time of iftar)
3. Increase charity and ensure payment of Zakat al-Fitr
Umar bin Abdul-Aziz used to write to the cities ordering them to seal the month of Ramadan with istighfar (seeking forgiveness) and Zakat al-Fitr
Why we celebrate Eid
Indeed the day of the end of fasting (yaum al fitr) is an eid for the whole ummah because the people of kabaair (those who committed major sins) from amongst the fasting people are saved from the Fire. Just as the day of sacrifice (Eid-al-Adha) is called Eid al-Akbar because it is preceded by the day of ‘Arafa – no other day on this earth sees more servants being released from the Fire.
So the (true) Yawm-Eid is for the one who is released from the Fire in these two days, and the one for whom safety from the Fire passes him by, then he only has Yawm Wa’eed (day of warning).
O people who have committed enormities (major sins), al-Ghanema (booty)! al-Ghanema! In these blessed days, they have no replacement, they are priceless. So whosoever is saved from the Fire has indeed succeeded in attaining an immense reward, and a great prize.
O the one whom his Master has released from the Fire, beware of returning to the slavery to sin after He has set you free. Do you draw closer to the Fire whilst your Master takes you away from it? Do you fall back into it whilst He rescues you from it? Do you not turn away from it?
Weeping for its departure
O Ramadan, be gentle, the tears of the believers pour forth, and their hearts are anxious from the pain of separation. And why shouldn’t the tears flow from the believers upon the parting [of Ramadan], whilst he knows not whether he shall live to see its return!
