Save Interpal!

A little while ago I wrote a blog on the situation in Palestine and how there is a concerted effort to squeeze the life out of the Palestinians. If it’s not the terrorist killing of children, men and women by the occupying Zionist’s army, then it’s the blockade – if that fails they turn off the fuel, the water supply and much more. But every now and again a little trickle of hope gets in whether by the noble efforts of the likes of Lauren Booth and the blockade busting ships.

Sometimes hope is provided by charities, one such charity is Interpal. We know the Zionists have tried to close down Interpal for a while now – one such attempt cost them dearly, but they have not given up.

It seems now that Interpal’s bank account will be closed by Lloyds TSB without any reason or justification. Ibrahim Hewitt, chair of Interpal said:“We received notification the day before yesterday from our bank, the Islamic Bank of Britain (IBB), that Lloyds TSB (their clearing bank) have served notice on IBB to cease all dealings with Interpal. The notice comes into effect on 8 December 2008 (a nice Eid prsent!). After this time ‘all transactions into or out of Interpal accounts will be blocked and IBB will be at further risk of all its customer payments being suspended.’”

Of course the IBB has offered their full support – but it’s Lloyds TSB that is ensuring that more Palestinians die. What would drive this bank to such horrors? Whatever the reason, we cannot let them get away with it!

I urge all of you to take action – and at the bear minimum write or call to show your disgust and ask for the revocation of this immoral decision! You may write to the following:

  • Salam all,

I have written my email and sent it out:

    Dear Ms Campbell,

I was disgusted and disheartened to hear that Lloyds TSB have served notice on Islamic Bank of Britain to cease all dealings with Interpal. That this decision should come into effect on 8 December – a possible date for the Eid celebrations – is rubbing salt into the wounds!

I am at a loss to understand why your organisation has made such an arbitrary and unjust decision. Interpal is a registered charity organisation and has done nothing to break the law. It is serving the poor and destitute of all faiths in Palestine. At present due to the Zionist siege of Gaza and the international silence most of Palestine is in need of charitable donations facilitated by the likes of Interpal. Please explain your decision?

The Charities Commission are due to publish their report on Interpal, why has your organisation not waited for this report? What justification do you have for such a draconian and unjust move. It seems that your organisation has succumbed to a virulent Zionist/anti-Muslim lobby. I should remind you that Muslim taxpayer money was used to bail your organisation out too!

I urge that your organisation rescind this unfair decision ASAP.

I would like a written response.

    Yours Sincerely

    Muhammad Abul Kalam

please do keep us updated br Kalam or br Azad on any replies from Loyds.

I feel that Lloyds sees the muslim suffering and death as a result of their actions to be just collateral damage. They don’t care.

I think this is basically a case of “Islamic” Bank of Britain not bothering to support Interpal. After all, IBB is a customer of Lloyds TSB, so IBB is PAYING them to use their clearing services. And so IBB could easily say “You can’t bully us. We’re just going to use another bank to do our clearing and pay the fees to someone else!”

Lloyds TSB would quickly change their tune if IBB showed any courage in support of their Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine, instead of threatening their Muslim brothers and acting as the lapdog of the Kafir bankers in such a cowardly way. It’s very clear that IBB probably have an ulterior motive for going along with Lloyds TSB’s request. They probably think Interpal is too much trouble for them. Or they are not making enough money out of Interpal. (That’s right – not making any money from the humanitarian charity that’s helping NEEDY Palestinians!!!)

So while you’re complaining to Lloyds TSB about this (and you should be!) make sure you also complain to the “Islamic” Bank of Britian, and tell them that if they are not prepared to support their own Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine then we do not consider them to be “sharia compliant” and we will be closing our accounts and telling every other Muslim we know to do the same thing. If you want the Ummah to support you then you need to show support to the Ummah in it’s times of need. If you turn your back on the Ummah (which is what IBB is doing) then the Ummah will turn its back on you.

  • The following is a letter sent to Loyds TSB

    Dear Bulat Betalgiry

I have been informed by members of the community that Lloyds TSB (the clearing bank for the Islamic Bank of Britain) has served notice on the IBB to cease all dealings with Interpal. We have also been informed that this is to come into effect on the 8th December 2008, on the days of the Muslim’s celebration Eid-ul-adha.

This disappointing news has shocked the Muslim community at large and they have reacted by coming together to protest to this act of injustice. We are further lead to believe that after this period ‘’ all transactions into or out of Interpal accounts will be blocked and IBB will be at further risk of all its customer payments being suspended. The bank hasn’t even waited for the Charity Commission to publish its latest report on Interpal.

The British Muslim community at present are around 50,000 strong who invest their money into Lloyds TSB. It would be a great financial loss to Lloyds TSB if these customers are to come together and to remove their investments from the bank.

We therefore are calling on the bank to not go ahead with ceasing all Interpal transactions and re-consider their actions.

    Yours sincerely

  • @ Aadam Harwood

Jazakallah khayer for your comments – I know you mean them to be constructive. I mentioned specifically in my post that the IBB is trying its best to help, so let’s cut them some slack please.

    Jzks.

God chooses men to rule nations in peace, wage war aginst poverty and disease, provide food, clothing, shelter, education, help everyone to live, at least in peace.Loyds Tsb has to rethink their action if they are humanbeings. It is not they are playing game with Interpal but they are targeting those insocent people among them is one of the orphan is my daughter to whom I am supporting and she is calling me father and I was so emotional. Any action to be taken is to be taken by The Charitry Commission and not by the Clearing Bank. It is now for the Islamic Bank to take action by shifting their account to another clearing bank. and also all the Muslims who are account holder of Lloyds Tsb should take necessary action.

  • Update:

Lloyds TSB is responding to some people and stating that they did not do anything. See their lies exposed here: http://www.interpal.info/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/notice-letter-lloyds-tsb-ibb-p1.jpg

    Please keep up the pressure.
