Amir al-Mu’mineen

For those few who do not know what a ‘caliph’ is or more appropriately what a Khilafa is, here is a quick definition. In Islam, Khalifa or Caliph (English word) is the successor to the Prophet, peace be upon him, in his role as leader of the Muslims and the head of its political, military and administrative systems. So the Khalifa is the successor and the Khilafa is the government system of which he is the head.

So, since we are all working our socks off, in different ways, for the resurgence of the Khilafa, I have one question who would you give bayyah to today and what would you say are the qualities needed for them to get your vote? Please, no essays or dissertations!

Try to avoid the obvious things i.e. that it must be a ‘he’, and a Muslim and be of high moral character and be learned in the deen etc. I’m asking for what would make you personally choose someone.

My vote for the title of Amir al-Mu’mineen would have to go to the Palestinian Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh. Not only is a motivational leader, with political depth and skill, but also he is a Hafiz of the Qur’an, Mashallah!

Name me one other Muslim leader that is currently leading his people in salat al-Tarawih? I cannot think of another single leader that can lead his people like this! So for me, once meeting the obvious requirements to be Khalifa – what tipped my vote for Ismail Haniyeh was the knowledge that this leader was truly a servant of Allah. Reading up on him, I immediately recalled the famous words of Abu Bakr (ra) “The weak among you shall be strong with me until their rights have been vindicated; and the strong among you shall be weak with me until, if the Lord wills, I have taken what is due from them…”

Unfortunately, we do not hear enough of these stories of our leaders leading salah, tarawih, hajj etc, sadly we only read about these things in history books!

So who would you vote for?

Thank you brother for sharing such a GREAT topic, also for sharing that Ismail Haniyeh is leading his people in salatul Tarawih. [It has touched my heart in this great day (Friday day), few hours away from most likely day of night of Power]

May Allah bless him and all righteous Muslims. May Allah guide the rest of the people of the world.

May Allah make the people of Palestine stronger in heart this Ramadan, May Allah allow them to defend the blessed land or the land of prophets or the station or Isra-wal-Meraaj…list goes on.

Indeed Allah is best of planners.

May Allah accept all those fast people did/doing, and allow others to fast who did not (cos fasting has been prescribed to all, ultimately allow then to fast the way Muslims fast).

Eid Greeting to all the readers.

I’d agree with the choice of Ismail Haniyeh as a very suitable candidate. But I might also suggest Sh.Yusuf Al Qaradawi.

In fact Sh.Akram Nadwi said that if the Muslim world was to have a khalifa today, Sh.Qaradawi would be the right person. In addition to his many great achivements e.g. his contribution in the field of scholarship and fearlessly championing Muslim causes, he has a lot of international exposure and experience, which would be important for a global leader.

May Allah guide us to the right way of establishing His deen.
    Ameen.

we must first know the ruling system of Islam and make sure that these people you mention also understand the ruling system of Islam.
Is it a democracy? Is it a dicatatorship? Will elections exist in such ruling system? What about the constitution? How prepared are the muslims? What about the foreign policy? where can you establish the Khilafah, anywhere?
Can there be mulitple Chaliphs? Can ther be multiple Khilafah?
    What will they rule by?
lots of questions…;-)..now we need to refer back to the quran and sunnah determine the model for our ruling system, the foregn policy and all the answers to our question…and have confidence, fear not, Islam is not backward ..the answer is there.

Allah (swt), the Supreme Lord and Sovereign over the universe sent the Messenger Muhammad (saw) to mankind as the final messenger in order to make Islam dominant all over the Earth (Izhar ul deen) providing man with a complete way of life(deen) to deal with every eventuality from his (saw’s) death until the day of judgement. The Messenger Muhammad (saw) left for us the Quran and his Sunnah as the only reference to deal with all our relationships whether with Allah (swt), with ourselves, with other humans or with animals or objects. Islam has a unique belief (Aqueedah) upon which are based all the divine rules whether dealing with the ritual, personal, economic, social, judicial or ruling systems or the foreign policy of the Islamic state. Allah (swt) has obliged us to submit to, to follow and to obey all his commands and to leave all his prohibitions saying that no matter how small or subtle the action he (swt) will account us for it on the day of judgement [99:7-8]. He (swt) obliged us to rule by His (swt’s) commands exclusively [5:45-49] and not to obey any man-made law [33:1]. The ruling system of Islam i.e. Al Khilafah has been absent from the lives of Muslims since the destruction of the Othmani Khilafah on 3rd March 1924. It is an obligation upon all Muslims to work to establish the Islamic authority wherever they may be. It is the vital issue affecting our Ummah today. We intend to set out below an introduction to the ruling system of Islam with its evidences (Inshallah).

    1. Waqi ul Hukm – The reality of ruling: this involves the study of the following:

    a) Al Hukm – The Supremacy

    b) Al Qadha – The Judiciary

    c) Al Raa’ie – The Ruler

    d) Al Raa’iyyah – The Subjects

    2. Qawaa’ied Nizaam Al Hukm – The basis of the ruling system: This involves the study of the following:
    a) Al Haakimiyyah – The Legislator

    b) Al Siyaada – The Sovereignty

    c) Al Sultaan – The Authority

    d) Al Wihda – The Unity

    e) Al Qaraar – The Decision

    f) Al Anzimah – The Ruling Systems

    g) Al Mahaam – The Functions of the Ruling System

    3. Haykel Nizam Al Hukm – The structure of the ruling system: This involves the study of the following:

    a) Al Khilaafah

    b) Al Khalifah

    c) Al Mu’awenoon – Assistants

    d) Al Wulaat – Governors

    e) Al Qudhaat – Judges

    f) Al Jiesh- Army

    g) Al Dawaa’er ul Sultaniyyah – Government Departments

    h) Majlis ul Ra’ieyyah – Citizens Council

    i) Al Azaab ul Siyasiyyah – The Political Parties

    j) Majlis Al Shura – Consultative Department

Musab – We should all learn the ruling system of Islam.

Imam Mahdi is the current leader of our time, so he is our best choice

but i think the only person deserving the title of “Amir ul Mu’mineen” is Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib

Why is leading Tarawih a condition for being a Caliph? Tarawih in its modern form is bidah (innovation) because mustahab (recommended, but not obligatory) prayers have to be done by yourself, not in public. Also, your own “sahih” books testify that when the Prophet(PBUH) was praying Tarawih and people started praying behind him, he stopped praying Tarawih in public, and started praying it alone in his house

Public Tarawih prayers are not the sunnah of the Prophet(PBUH), nor are they the sunnah of Abu Bakr. Public Tarawih prayers are the sunnah of Umr ibn Khattab

If you believe that Islam is pure and that the Quran is pure, then WHY would God (awj) allow an impure person to protect those pure things? A purified person should lead the ummah. The only people fit to lead the ummah from the time of the Prophet(PBUH) are:

    Prophet Muhammad (PUBH)
    Imam Ali
    Imam Hassan
    Imam Hussein
Imam Zain ul Abadeen al Sajad
    Imam Muhammad Baqir
Imam Jafar as Sadiq (the teacher of Abu Hannifah and Malik)
    Imam Ali Rida
    Imam Muhammad_al-Taqi
    Imam Ali al-Hadi
    Imam Hasan al-Askari
Imam Mahdi (the current leader of our time)

    An interesting topic.
There is a point where somebody says that the Mahdi is the current leader of the community. If he is, let’s say, concealed for such a long time what kind of power had he been invested with to guide his people.
He is simply absent and the faqih or qadi who, is leading the community speaks on his behalf, might speak wrong because his knowledge is limited.
I guess the notion of Mahdi represented with figures who are not from the Ahl al-Bayt are not vested with such a power as to represent the Mahdi, or so to say the Imam of the Time.
