Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor recently said that Britain could not be allowed to become a God free zone. And the head of Britain’s Catholic community is quite right. Just look at what happens when society turns away from God.
Year in year out we hear news and statistics pointing to our ever increasing rates of crime, teenage pregnancies, drug addiction and alcoholism (even among kids). Britain is often referred to as the teenage pregnancy capital and the crime capital of Western Europe, among other unceremonious titles. We are also the worst rated in obesity, literacy, and certain health conditions like asthma, compared to our Western European neighbours. As Bill Bailey put it, Britain has become ‘a bunch of stoned, illiterate, wheezy, lardy, (illegitimate children)’! I desist from using the b-word he used at the end, but you get the point.
A whole host of policies and programmes have come and gone over the years, trying to tackle these issues, but with little success. Perhaps the lack of solutions point to something society has forgotten, that missing source of guidance to inspire real solutions. And that is God – Allah, our creator. Dr. Zakir Naik (of Peace TV) once mentioned that if we wanted to find out how to operate any machinery, we would have to refer to its manual, since it was written by the maker of the machine, who will know what is best for it. So what is the manual of the human being? I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that one.
The Richard Dawkins of this world will have us believe that religion is the opium of the masses, and God is just ‘an imaginary friend’. But what happens when you replace the opium of the masses? You end up with the masses living on real opium!
Whatever measures we put in place, there is unlikely to be a real change if people aren’t honest and God fearing. Because when you believe in God, you’re no longer as bothered about whether you are seen by people or the authorities. As God sees all.
I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog.

Why is a cardinal sin to be disagreed?
jazakallahu khairan brother for your fantastic article. I enjoyed reading your article.
Mentrapelos, would it not in theory be a cardinal sin for a believer in God to disagree with the statement: ‘Britain cannot be allowed to become a God free zone’?
An article on MSN recently summed up Britain in three unfortunately appropriate adjectives: ’sick, sozzled and single’. Leaves little to be said.
And just as Marx claims ‘religion is the opium of the masses’, Sheikh AH Murad clarifies that it is in fact opium that is the current religion of the masses, as everyone rushes to distract themselves from the realities of life.
